The real lives of phone sex operators

Operators reveal all to photographer Phillip Toledano about the needs and desires of their customers—and why eating a peach mimics cunnilingus.
I picked that up while skimming my daily RSS feed notifications. It's actually a pretty good read and interesting to see what makes folks tick. (in a investigative way)

One of the phonesex operators, a 60 years old with a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University made the remark:
"They call to masturbate.
I call it 'Executive Stress Relief.'
It's not sex; it's a cocktail of testosterone, fueled by addiction to pornography, loneliness, and the need to hear a woman's voice.
I make twice the money I made in the corporate world."
In his book Toledano has photographed nearly thirty phonesex operators in the intimate setting of their own homes, a glimpse into the reality of a fantasy created by the operator’s voice and the caller’s imagination.
"There is a contract that exists between phonesex operators and the people who call. It is a contract of self-delusion.

The caller agrees to pretend that he (or she) is calling a young, beautiful girl, and the phonesex operator willingly plays the part. Phonesex reveals the truth. It pulls back the veil to reveal the expected, and the unexpected, all at once." — Phillip Toledano
